I woke up this morning in Harrisburg, PA!
I’ve got a fun week of travel ahead of me, with working here in Pennsylvania, visiting the little brother in Baltimore, catching up with some of my best friends in DC before flying to Chicago for a Bat Mitzvah with Nate’s family. Let’s just say I packed a lot of “casual-to-work-to-travel-to-dinner” blouses. I’m linking up to show Tuesday’s eats, and here’s a throwback link to my last “What I Ate Wednesday” here in Harrisburg.
BREAKFAST
After a full day of flying (ugh) on Monday, I tried to get back on a normal schedule on Tuesday. So when I woke up at 8am…it was like 5am in my mind and body. I drank a little hot lemon water while getting ready but was clearly not in the right head space once I started driving. I could absolutely not follow my GPS to get coffee in the AM and did donuts around the Pennsylvania capital until I came across my favorite coffee shop out here. I also realized at this point that I had left my breakfast at the hotel. Thankfully I am always stocked with some kind of bar/trail mix so once I got to the office I hangrily dug into some blueberries and an Evo bar. The coffee gave me a great buzz.
LUNCH
We stopped by The Healthy Grocer where I grabbed a tuna wrap with lots of lettuce and a little red onion and mustard. I could live off tuna wraps…seriously. I also had some sauerkraut on the side.
SNACK
I had some hot green tea with lemon and the rest of this “high country kombucha“.
I did some errands after work, and grabbed a Quest bar because I knew dinner was going to be a late and lengthy affair. I forgot how gross these are. I totally overdid in on Quest bars two summers ago and really haven’t enjoyed them since. Guess I needed the reminder! Kind of unfortunate that I had a bar for breakfast and a bar for a snack, but that’s just how the world works when you travel all the time!
DINNER
We had a BIG team dinner event at Home 231 which was a lot of fun. We took up pretty much the entire restaurant! The food was pretty meh though.
To be honest, I had reverted back to my old ways with planning what I was going to eat and perusing the menu before, because I have been feeling like I had put on a couple of pounds recently. It’s that kind of thinking that just reduces my joy when it comes to food and eating and often backfires mentally/physically, but I definitely let it get to me yesterday. However, when we were at dinner I pushed it to the side and enjoyed some of the shared appetizers, ordered a healthy dinner, and even had a couple bites of the shared dessert. This kind of “normal” approach to a dinner out would probably have been unheard of for me a year ago. While I can’t say that I didn’t feel some of the guilt for not following my “plan”, but the good feelings around recognizing my growth overshadowed the bad for sure.
It’s crazy how these things from your past can come back in full force sometimes - often when you’re out of your normal routine - but just taking a deep breath and remembering that you don’t need to have control over everything that you eat, that doesn’t make you not in charge of your life and your happiness or better/worse than anyone else at the dinner. This actually reminds me of a post that The Real Life RD shared a week or so ago.
I then proceeded to stay up super late because I’m still quite jetlagged. Which is why I have no excuse to posting this later in the morning today! Back to work!
