Last week’s WIAW was such a popular post that I decided to link up again with Jenn and give another peek into my business travels eating lifestyle. While both a perk and a downside, when I travel I can only eat out. At first this is super exciting - you try tons of new restaurants and new local products - but sometimes you just want simple, easy, homecooked meals. Regardless, I sampled a bunch of new products this week - some hits and some misses!
On a totally random note - we found a place in San Francisco! I had been a bit terrified and intimidated by the Bay Area housing search leading up to last week, but we found an awesome place and sealed the deal on Sunday. I have to say that I’m super surprised that we landed something so fast and a place that we’re really excited about!
BREAKFAST
I picked up a green juice from Method Juice and sipped it as I drove to work. I drank about half, and am saving the rest for tomorrow! Once at work, I whipped up some oatmeal with almond milk, blueberries, and peanut butter in the microwave. Super simple, and coincidentally used a bunch of the items from the Essential Desk Pantry highlighted in yesterday’s post! Pro tip - nuke the blueberries for 30 seconds with the oatmeal. They become these deliciously tangy, sweet, and hot little bubbles of flavor!
COFFEE
I consider this it’s own meal since caffeinating is such a critical part of my day. Hah! Picked up some drip coffee on my way to the client site (“black, like my soul” I order. So witty over here at DCC). This coffee shop, Boots, serves really great vegan fare and treats. I think it also operates as a bar at night as well.
LUNCH
My lunch was mostly sourced from a ton of different local companies. Today I had a “beans and greens” soup from Main Market Co-Op (one of the Whole Foods-esque grocery stores I frequent up here in Spokane). Killer ingredient breakdown on this soup, no? And on the side - this is where it gets fun - some black pepper Mary’s Gone Crackers plus some Vegan Chao cheese from the Field Roast company, kale chips from Pacific Northwest Snack Company, and “Eastern European” sauerkraut from OlyKraut. This sauerkraut had cabbage, carrots, and some apples in it (supposedly - I couldn’t taste the apples). I think I like their original flavor better.
The soup? A+, can’t wait to recreate it here on the blog for you. Mary’s Gone Crackers? Also an A+ - love this brand. The vegan cheese satisfied my hankering for cheese/crackers, but it is by no means a sharp cheddar. And the kale chips were awesome! They tasted cheesy, even though they were totally dairy-free. The sauerkraut was actually not as tangy and sour as I like my ‘kraut, but I love getting in my probiotics. Overall, a very delicious lunch and a nice way to break up the day.
SNACK TIME
I picked up beverages for my team from the local Starbucks. Usually I go with the unsweetened iced green tea, but today I decided to throw it back to my childhood and get a half black tea/half passion iced team. I used to go to Starbucks all the time in middle school with my grungy friends and get a passion iced tea lemonade and one of those marshmallow bars! Such a nostalgic flavor to me.
DINNER
After a sweaty spin sesh at The Union (AWESOME class today) I sat down at Chipotle in all of my sweaty and nasty glory. That’s the thing about traveling for work. You suddenly have no shame wearing workout clothes and your fancy work ballet flats and being in public because you live in a hotel and you will never run into anyone you know. I had a salad with chicken, fajita veggies, corn, salsas, and guac.
DESSERT & WINE
I picked up some wine from the hotel bar before heading up to my room, and I love that they put plastic wrap over the glass so I don’t spill on myself in the elevator. I also had some unpictured chocolate for dessert! I purchase this chocolate in 40-calorie pre-packaged servings so I don’t scarf down a whole bar.
And that was my day! Back to work (and The Voice), friends! I have a breakfast date tomorrow with a colleague and I’ve got my eye on one of those acai parfaits again. Why do I always go to bed thinking about breakfast?!

Congratulations on finding a place in the Bay area! How exciting. Hope you enjoy everything about your new home & have fun decorating.
Thanks! I’m so excited to start decorating!
Congrats on finding a place! Not an easy thing to do anywhere in CA… we lucked out with ours in San Diego.
Love the no-spill on the wine. I need a sippy cup. Hahaha!

Yeah I’m quite relieved! I thought it was going to be a much longer house hunt. And amen to the sippy cup. Maybe I’ll start bringing my own..
Yay for kale chips! Also, I can tell that is Chao cheese (correct?) and that is my FAVE vegan cheese 🙂

That is Chao cheese! I tried it for the first time. It’s no perfect replacement for cheddar, but it’ll do!
Haha I like my coffee black, too! And ohh man I’m drooling over that chipotle bowl. The guac is the best part! 😉
I know! I don’t even listen to the Chipotle servers when they tell me “you know that’ll be a one dollar blah blah charge”!
Congrats on finding a place in the SF! I love living here and hope you do too! There are so many wonderful places to eat at!
