The title pretty much says it all. On Thursday afternoon, I got the call that we needed emergency support here in Spokane over the weekend so I extended my ticket to stay through Sunday evening. Now, what does an (almost 25 year old) gal do in Spokane with no friends, after spending Saturday and Sunday in the office? Really random sh*t, let me tell you. Everything from getting my nose ring fixed to visiting Idaho. Clearly I didn’t get to interact with enough humans this weekend because this is a LONG post and it’s like I’m conversing with you all…
Friday morning started with a Pure Barre session.
And a huge veggie egg white omelet with lots of hot sauce afterwards. Yup, I went to IHOP. When in Spokane!!
We were having a big chili cook off at work so I supplied some pretty butter rolls. They were gone in about a minute.
I worked until about 8pm, ate some reheated salmon and veggies for dinner and then took myself to see the Hunger Games: Mocking Jay part 1! I have to say that I wasn’t enthralled with this movie…although it got really freaky and exciting til the end. There were lots of serious conversations and scenes of characters just staring at massive amounts of destruction. I could have used a little more romance, to be honest.
Early wake up on Saturday to a semi-nice view of the river. Also, happy anniversary to the boyfriend! <3 See you in Cambodia this week!
On the way to work, my bag was so heavy that my rental car kept telling me to put a seatbelt on it.
Nothing like eggs and conference calls to start your weekend off right…
When work let out, I took a quick trip to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho! Took about twenty minutes to drive.
Quick brisk walk around the lake! Brrrr.
Back to Spokane for an easy Chipotle lunch and more work calls.
Then I proceeded to do a bunch of errands. Got my nails gelled, fixed my nose ring, did some random shopping etc. Watched kids take pix with Santa at the mall. Popped into Boots Bakery for an almond milk latte! Great vegan/gluten free pastries and prepared salads here too.
Elliptical session in the hotel with the UCLA vs USC game on in the background. I unfortunately missed the game due to work, but my entire family went to the Rose Bowl to cheer on the Bruins! Go UCLA! More work calls post-workout.
Romantic anniversary dinner for one at Anthony’s - their cioppino is amazing. This restaurant overlooks the Spokane Falls, and is really beautiful. I sat by the fire and read. Insider fact - Anthony’s has an outpost in the Seattle-Tacoma airport. Best airport food ever.
Saturday evening was spent blogging and working in bed! Sunday early morning wake up call again, and off to the office. Car continued to tell me to put a seatbelt on my work bag. Eggs and turkey sausage from the hotel. for breakfast, and all of my supplements on the side.
Almond milk latte snack break at Wake Up Call Coffee! Spokane has the CUTEST roadside coffee shops that look like these little mini houses you might find in Disneyland. I think I have to do a whole post on these.
Continued to work throughout the morning! Recieved my #Elf4Health pairing in my inbox. I’m very excited about the #Elf4Health challenge that Lindsay and Elle are putting on. You get paired with a random fellow “elf pen pal” and every week, they give you instructions on what to share with your “elf pen pal”, ranging from recipes to tips for staying fit throughout the holidays. Every day has a new theme. Still time to sign up for the next round!
I left work and grabbed a late lunch before my flight. Yay - finally headed home! This was an absolutely delicious bun-less burger with melted smoked gouda and sauteed mushrooms at Steelhead Bar & Grille. Loved my server Stacey and will definitely be back.
Also picked up these hilarious holiday cards at Atticus Coffeeshop next door which I can’t wait to gift to my teammates in December.
Then I boarded this helicopter of a flight and took off to Portland! I think I fell asleep the minute I boarded the plane. I don’t even remember who I sat next to because I didn’t wake up until after we had landed and he (or she?) was de-boarding (dis-boarding?).
Picked up a tuna salad on kale in the airport. Kale in an airport? Only in Portland, I suppose. And a Real Simple magazine. Really fun ideas in here for new holiday traditions.
Now I write this to you from 10,000 feet! Hope you enjoyed that play-by-play of my unusual solo weekend. Happy Monday, everyone!
