WIAW - Monday Travel Day Eats

Ever have one of those days where you feel indecisive all day about what “you’re in the mood for” or what sounds good to eat? That was my Monday.

Nate and I woke up early on Monday morning feeling absolutely OFF. We had went out for a friend’s going away celebration the evening before, and everything started so wonderfully on his rooftop in North Beach with killer views of SF. We then had dinner at a restaurant that was expensive and had sub-par food, and we both climbed into bed that night feeling like we had a mild case of food poisoning! Needless to say, I didn’t feel like myself all day and I could not pinpoint for any meal what would taste good to me and I ended up spending wayy too much time during the day thinking about what food I was in the mood for. But linking up regardless to show you Monday’s eats!

BREAKFAST

In the cab, I had a half a banana to tide me over. It really helped out with the nausea I was experiencing, and also keep up a conversation with my chatty cab driver. In the airport, I grabbed a fruit cup and some scrambled eggs and ate on the plane before falling asleep. I normally work on my Monday morning flight, but I felt so ill in the morning that I was out like a light before we even took off until we hit the ground again. I have my whole plane sleep strategy down stat - if you’re curious, you can read my tips and tricks here.

I tried to get lunch at a few different places when I arrived in Olympia but they were either out of salad (what?!) or I realized that what I was grabbing actually had dairy in it. Moments like this when I’m wandering around Olympia but need to get into the office make me wish that there was a Sprig here. It didn’t help that I wasn’t even sure if I could stomach raw veggies, so I settled on this black bean, corn, chicken and rice salad. While not the healthiest of dishes, it tasted comforting. I also didn’t grab coffee until lunchtime because I had fallen asleep for the entire flight!

My view at lunch was quite nice - can you see the Puget Sound and all of the docked boats?

An unpictured granny smith apple and a little bit of Trader Joe’s flax and chia seed peanut butter, and some mint tea. Been loving apples and PB for snacktime recently. Same as last week’s WIAW!

DINNER

I saw a sign that the Salmon Commission was in town here in Olympia and having meetings at my hotel! I almost wanted to crash their board meeting and tell them how they single-handedly keep me fed here in the PNW. Or how I single-handedly keep them in business, given how much of their fish I consume. Speaking of salmon, I had the most delicious cioppino for dinner. It really hit the spot, filled with veggies and fresh seafood and a tomato broth. I didn’t eat any of the scallops or clams - just didn’t sound appetizing to me. I also started reading “Girl on the Train” at dinner and I’m already hooked! I love when a book sucks you in right away.

I had some chocolate back in my hotel room, and watched re-runs of the VMAs while I prepared for some big presentations happening mid-week. And hopefully by the time you read this on Wednesday, I’ll feel fully back to myself and normal eating habits!
